Improving Your Print Quality

by Dan Rose

We don’t always get the quality we intended when printing. Here are a few things you can do. These are some simple things that won’t take too long to do and could have great payoffs. The cool thing about them is they won’t cost you a dime!

Paper and Quality Settings:

Always make sure you are selecting the proper setting for the paper you are using. Your printer uses different ICC profiles for every paper. For printing photos, always make sure you are selecting the photo or best photo settings.

Update your Printer Drivers:

Most likely when you setup your printer the manufacturer has an updated printer driver waiting for you on their website. These updates can affect your quality a great deal as well as the speed of your printing.

Update the Video Card Driver:

Video drivers pass on the image information to your monitor. It could make a big difference in the way the image on the screen compares to the print. Look at your computer equipment documentation for the video card used in you computer. Connect to their website for your free updates!

Run Maintenance Utilities regularly!

Inkjet nozzles can get clogged no matter whose ink you are using. Clogging is generally caused by the ink drying out in the print head jets. It normally happens because the printer is repeatedly left on overnight, so always turn your printer off when you have finished printing. Another way clogging can become a problem is by not using your printer. Printers need exercise. The best thing for them is to be used. At minimum they need to be used at least once a week. What happens when these improper practices are common is a build up of dried ink on the print head. If you suspect problems, run the printer nozzle test patterns. If the test shows gaps run the cleaning utility. Then run the nozzle test. If it is not clean yet run it again. If after you repeat this process several more times and you still have problems speak with tech support at Suprachrome - 913 385 3686. We may be able to help.
